Good books

I've been wanting to do more reading for a while now since I've pretty much neglected it for the past few years. And I don't mean reading more fantasy books which I exclusively read in the past. I want to read good quality books from many genres. Fiction and non fiction. That is why I've decided to trawl through some of the world's most prestigious literary prizes (eg. Booker Prize & Pulitzer Prize) and read books that are shortlisted. My workmate owns most of the past winners of the Booker prize and he recommends alot of them. I guess with these prizes I am able to pick up a book (even if it has a dull cover ;) ) and be confident that it will be decent. I may even write reviews of each one that I've read. Stayed tuned :)

Sport at work

I've just recently joined various sporting activities with some of my workmates. On Monday lunchtimes we play touch footy for the company. Tuesday lunch I head down to the park to play touch footy with people who work around our area. On Thursday some of the guys at work organise a Basketball game. All this plus my gym membership which I try to go at least once a week! Man if I keep this up I'm gonna be hella fit! This will be good lead up work for the City to Surf though. Can't wait to run it.

A good deed

It was Saturday morning and I was up early to head to the hair dresser for a haircut. My mum's car was blocking mine in the carport so I moved hers out to the front of the house. As I was walking back to get my car I noticed a middle aged woman standing on the corner (I live on a corner block with a bus stop) waiting for something. She had been there for a while I assumed. As I walked past she asked if I knew the times for the buses on Saturdays. I didn't know so I told her so, but as I started to walk away I felt a twinge of guilt for not being able to help her. So I turned around and asked her where she was headed. She said to Chester Hill. Seeing as I was about to head out anyway, I offered her a lift to Chester Hill as I didn't want her to wait for a bus that would never come. She asked if it was out of my way. I said I was going to Bankstown and Chester Hill was in the other direction but it's only the suburb next to mine so it's no hassle. When I dropped her off at Chester Hill shopping center she thanked me and wished me a great long weekend. I returned the kind words and as I drove away I felt really good. I felt good that I had just helped a complete stranger. Although it's only a minor thing, I believe it's these sort of things that can really make your day. I know it made mine.
