Lunchtimes @ ResMed

You know, I bitch about ResMed not paying me enough but there is one thing I enjoy at ResMed. Lunchtime sports/recreational activities. My current weekly schedule (it changes depending on what sports are available) is:

Monday: Watch something in our main conference room with the projector. Currently it's The Office season 2.
Tuesday: Touch footy
Wednesday: Basketball
Thursday: Badminton (Softball season just finished)
Friday: Lunch at a pub with workmates

It really breaks up the work day and makes work bearable.

Rewarded

Recently I got awarded a $100 restaurant voucher by ResMed. ResMed has a policy where team leaders can nominate people for outstanding work performed by any employee. I was nominated for my implementation and verification efforts in my last project. It's nice to be rewarded for the effort you put in. Seafood platter here I come!!

Close Call

I almost got into a car accident on Saturday afternoon. My girlfriend and I were in the car, driving down Hector St in Sefton. I was doing 60 in a 60 zone. A car from the side street stops and decides to turn right. Everything is fine. But then as I'm about 20m away from him he pulls out so that more than half his car is onto my lane before he realises that I was even there. He stops and I immediately applied the brakes. I realised that I wasn't going to stop in time so I swirved onto the other side of the road and had to quickly swirve back as there was oncoming traffic. The car skidded as it swirved back but I was able to keep it under control and not smash into a tree or something. I pulled over to regather my nerves as the other driver drove off.

That was a close call. If I was travelling any faster I reckon I would have hit him. My cousin passed away in a car accident that was completely not his fault just last year. Since then I'd always stay under or on the speed limit. I think it paid off this time. You think 60 is slow and believe me I think it's slow too but you need to cater for the situation where something unexpected happens. Driving just that 10 km/hr slower gives you those vital seconds to react and avoid an accident.
