Drenai Knights in battle

Accompanied fellow Drenai Knights on Sunday for a game of Paintball Skirmish. We were up against some friends of a friend, of whom we didn't know. Haven't played Skirmish for years so I was definitely interested in seeing how we'd go. The day was hot but the pace was slow. It was a fun day regardless with some highlights. I think in the end we came out on top thanks to some early wins early in the day. They managed to scrap a few back late in the day due to their bottomless pockets which resulted in endless amounts of paintballs.

My highlight was when I crawled on my stomach for 30m, up a steep incline, over ferns and long grass, as I stalked my prey. I can hear him, at the top of the mountain, next to some boulders. I hugged the perimeter. The Gods were with me as the terrain was favourable. There was a trail, slightly lower than the ground around it, snaking it's way up themountain. This in conjunction with the foilage provide excellent cover. My Progress was slow. Numerous times when I thought I had been discovered, I'd lie dead still, watching, listening...until I felt it was safe toproceed.

Finally I managed to get behind him without him seeing me. I was about 10m away. I popped my head up to take my shot only to have him turn around at that very moment. A terrible and furious firefight ensured. We must've wasted at least 30 rounds each as paintballs exploded around us, on branches, ferns, bouncing off our bodies and finally, the one that mattered. Smack bang on my right eye of my goggles. I was so disappointed. If I'd eliminated him, the right flank would've been ours and victory would've been decisive. A couple of teammates would've swept from right to left. With high ground we were at least on evenfooting. As it turned out, they all got shot by that guy (I think). It hink we won that game anyway so no biggie :)
